CREATUR’s art unleashes a world of bold colours, wild characters, and raw emotion. Every creature is born to be part street, pop energy, and all heartbeat. Building new realities where personality becomes shape, feeling becomes form, and imagination runs free.
Welcome to the Creaturverse!
My name is Daniel Muscat, and I create under the artist name CREATUR. Based in Sydney, I am an illustrator and visual artist, bringing characters to life that celebrate identity, self-expression, storytelling and imagination. I invite my viewers to connect with each character, reflecting on their own experiences. Whilst expanding the Creaturverse, I aim to inspire people to embrace themselves and celebrate the beauty in the unusual and unexpected.
I started drawing my creatures as a teenager. These creatures are little beings that helped me express how I felt when I didn’t always have the words. Over time, those early sketches evolved into the distinct visual language that now drives my practice. My work blends street art influences, popular culture, and raw personal experience, forming a universe of characters that reflect identity, emotion, and the strange beauty in the everyday.

Early Works
My art has always been character driven. I’m drawn to faces, odd personalities, and alien-like creatures that feel like they’ve stepped out of their own little worlds. Before I found my way into this style, I was deep into photography. Shooting landscapes and self portraits, trying to capture emotion in a single frame.
Growing up in Jervis Bay, street art wasn’t something you’d see every day. So whenever I’d come across a splash of spray paint on a wall or a random paste-up, it hit me hard. The flow of the paint, the splatters, the layers, the decay. They all felt alive. Those moments stuck with me, and they still shape the way I create today.
In 2014 and again in 2016, I had the privilege of collaborating with the Jervis Bay See Change Festival, creating a live mural at the Huskisson Arts in the Park event. It was the first time I’d ever shown my art publicly, and I loved seeing how people reacted. Asking questions, getting curious, and thinking creatively. This experience shaped my love for painting live.
In 2018, I returned to the See Change Festival with my own solo exhibition for the Arts Walk at the Hippie Shop in Huskisson, where I put together a collection of smaller artworks that explored the early stages of my style.
Live Art
I believe that painting in front of a crowd can inspire someone else to create, release and express their inner creature.
Since stepping into the Sydney art scene, I’ve exhibited in multiple group art shows across Australia, contributed to street art events worldwide, and have curated my own events and exhibitions. I’ve worked closely with creative agencies, curators, collectives, and local galleries. These experiences has shaped my understanding of community and collaboration, and it’s pushed me to keep expanding the Creaturverse.
I’ve had the chance to collaborate with some of Australia’s most talented curators and be part of group exhibitions with GAS Sydney, Plutoblu, KRVNM, and Midsole. I’ve also shown my work in galleries across Sydney and Melbourne, including Gallery Brave, Ochredfern, Studio 551, M2 Gallery, and SOL Gallery.
In 2019, I created The Living Creatures Project to bring Sydney’s street and urban art energy directly to the community. I kicked it off with live painting afternoons at the Newtown Hotel, featuring a lineup of talented local artists creating in real time. I then took the project on the road to Huskisson, Jervis Bay, showcasing diverse creative styles to inspire new audiences and spark fresh connections through art.
Living Creatures Project
Created to inspire a community.
In 2023, I curated two solo exhibitions, I AM CREATUR: Part 1 and Art by CREATUR. Both exploring identity, rebirth, and personal transformation through my character-driven works. Together, these shows traced the evolution of my visual language, using symbolic creatures and emotive portraits to reflect themes of sexuality, resilience, and new beginnings.

A Solo Exhibition exploring identity, rebirth, and self-acceptance through my evolving visual language.
Art by creatur
An Art launch celebrating the evolution of CREATUR over recent years while marking a moment of new beginnings.
In 2023, I furthered my creative foundation through D&AD Shift Sydney, sharpening my abilities in design and advertising.
In 2024, I completed AWARD School, where I put my conceptual thinking to the test across a wide range of challenging creative briefs. An experience that pushed me to think bigger and explore new mediums.
Beyond the studio, I’ve had the opportunity to work on projects that merge art with culture and brand storytelling. One highlight was contributing five original artworks to the Coopers Forever Original campaign, which showcased 100 original artworks across Australia. My pieces brought the CREATUR aesthetic into a national spotlight, blending illustration with Australian culture and urban art influences.
EVOLUTION: THE SIGNATURE CREATUR
My signature creature character has evolved alongside me for many years. It began as an instinctive response to the waviness and fluid motion of spray paint. That natural movement became the foundation for a form that felt alive. A creature shaped by flow, transformation, and constant becoming.
At its core, this creature is a symbol of rebirth. I first depicted it during a period of coming to terms with my sexuality, a time when I felt part of myself was reborn. The creature became a visual expression of that shift: a being that breaks, rebuilds, and grows into its true shape.
As my art has changed, my signature creature character has changed with it. It represents growth, self-acceptance, and the unapologetic evolution of identity. A reminder that reinvention is powerful, and that we are always becoming something truer, bolder, and more ourselves.
The Creaturverse
I’ve experimented with different forms within my style, and each one opens up a new world inside the Creaturverse. The Creaturverse is an expanding universe where all my characters live. Each collection representing its own dimension, its own mood, and its own visual language.
CREATUR POP is one of those worlds: bright, bold, and full of personality, where colour and pop culture characters collide to bring my creatures to life.
Today, my practice continues to evolve through my CREATUR style, character storytelling, and new hybrid mediums. Each expansion of the Creaturverse reveals another piece of myself. It is unfinished, forever evolving, and always becoming.
Whether I’m painting, illustrating, or building new narratives, my goal remains the same: to create work that inspires, feels alive, expressive and unique.
