I AM CREATUR: PART 1

Date: 20th to 26th April 2023

Location: The Art Centre of Sydney. 259 Victoria St, Darlinghurst.

I AM CREATUR: Part 1 is a body of work that showcases different art forms, in my individual style. To highlight the current stage in my artistic development.

I AM CREATUR is an exhibition which forms a connection between the acceptance of identity and oneself. I like to highlight symbolism of rebirth in my artworks to portray the development of my identity.

I use the symbolism of a crown of birds in my artworks to highlight my freedom, my thoughts and my rebirth.

I use the image of the Flamingo to symbolise diverse communities and the balance between being accepted by those communities, through the emulation of those around us with finding our own individual strengths, styles and thoughts.

For me, the image of the Currawong represents resilience, the connection between the death and rebirth of the individual. Particularly during the process of coming out. We grieve for the expected life that we can never have, while celebrating the birth of our new, truer selves.

I want to be able to form a space to tell my story and the story I share with other queer folk in our communities. Being able to be yourself in a world that’s not highly accepting of you is difficult, our journey of forming our own identity can sometimes be prolonged. I want this body of work to inspire people. I hope that the audience can form a connection to the themes and expressions laid out before them.

We legion, we are warriors.
You are you, I am me, I am CREATUR.
